Fine Thrifty Finds~

As much as I LOVE to thrift  shop I do not get the chance very often. So I try to make the best of it when I am able to go.  I was thrilled to find that a Salvation Army thrift store opened near my church and yesterday after mass I dropped in to see what goodies they have waiting for me.  These little gems were so happy to come home with me~
The store is not very big & when I was making my final go round I spotted this little beauty!  It is a DVF bag in really great condition.  A few years back when I had an Ebay store I sold one a tad bit bigger than this for $74.00.  I paid $6.99 for this beauty & once I clean her up she will look like new~
This size bag now sells for approx. $65.00-$100.00 not bad I say~
I LOVE*LOVE*LOVE to read & I read at least 3 to 4 books a month but, I only read in bed  & I do not do heavy reading, just funny, romantic or historical stories but my favorite are religiuos books i.e scripture, saints, popes, the bible is my most favorite.  The world has enough drama that I hear about daily so when I go to sleep I want to think of nice things.  This book looked like it would be a good read & it was only $.99~
These 2 plaques are soooo old school but I needed something thin to fit in some tight spots in our living room & I think these will fit the bill~
Once I give them another hue (not sure of the color) I know they will look so much better & maybe not so plastic-ie (a new word Websters is sure to pick up)~
I paid this huge amount  $2.99 probably because they are sooo old school & plastic~
Isn't this a beauty?  I actually found this at GW it is so heavy as it is  100% iron. I love the shape!  I removed the backing gave it a coat of primer and some chalkboard paint & now it sits in our kitchen counter top to announce dinner time~
I paid a lot more than I normally would  $5.99 for a frame but I was so in love with it, it was coming home with me~
This pretty green jug was found at Marshall's for a mere $3.50 I bought it for a vignette for St. Patrick's Day that I have yet to do~
Marshall's is another store I love to shop but don't have the opportunity to go very often either~
My favorite store is Hobby Lobby, they have the best sales & I try to visit this store at least twice a month if I am lucky.  Last week was my lucky week!  I have been eyeing laterens and they were not in my budget even at half off so when my very keen eyes spotted these I grabbed them up at ONLY $7.40 each~
They were so inexpensive because the glass from the back panel was missing, but that did not detour me because I know my very handy & talented husband could cut some plexi glass to fit that panel perfectly~
I paid a mere $.10 for this little beauty & I know what I will be using it on in the fall!  Can you guess?  Here is a hint: It is big, round & normally orange~
I am happy for two things first because Salvation Army opened a store near my church & second that I have the opportunity after mass to shop!!
Have you found any Fine Thrifty Finds?

Old World Wall Art~

I was recently hired to do a re-staging/decorating job out of state!  I was gone a full 5 days and I must say, I missed my angels something bad.
I had some difficulty doing this job because I was not able to take my tools and extra decor that I have hoarded saved because in order to get to this job I needed to take a 2 and half hour plane ride.  I am planning to return soon to spruce up the place a bit and add some other touches like this plaque I made for the bathroom~
Thank goodness for my hoarding saving!  I bought these four metal tiles a year ago from Michael's thinking I wanted to use them some way in our kitchen, but I did not like the way they looked and since I lost the receipt I was not able to return them~
I felt they would look great grouped together in a larger plaque, sooo I took out my trusted foam core.  I painted the areas that white might peek out as well as the edges. I applied construction adhesive to each tile and glued them to the foam core~
I had a small Fleur de Lis (of course)that I painted black and centered it in the middle.  For weight I used  my beautiful Readers Digest condensed edition books and waited over night to allow the glue to dry~
The following morning I added some ribbon on the back for hanging, of course she could have used 3M command strips, but honestly I did not think of that before hand~
I sent the homeowner a picture of the plaque & she loves it~
Once I return from adding the finishing touches I will post pictures of the job~

MORE THAN ONE VIRUS~

Do you recall me writing about all of the viruses we had floating/hanging around our home?  Well, we were not the only ones to get sick, because you see my computer also had a pretty bad case of the buggies~

Sometime before 14, February I was browsing a new blog, I looked at a few pages and I think it was either time to eat, drink, take a bath or clean house so I put the computer away only to come back the following day to a big W*A*R*N*I*N*G and then my computer just turned off. Did it crash?  I don't know.  I was so sad and if you follow me you would know that I am so not tech savvy.  I called my sister because she is a brain when it comes to computers, unfortunately she was extremely busy with work, she is a happy busy mommy to 2 handsome boys, her husband had surgery & she needed to have some tests done and was unable to help me out until this past week!    She is just as busy at work, she is still an amazing mommy, her husband is recovering fine from surgery & she had her tests done as well as an MRI that we are awaiting results on.  Pray for her PLEASE!
She helped me out & got my system up & going again in no time.  For so many things I am grateful that she is my sister, but in this case I am grateful she knows computers & is ALWAYS willing to give me a helping hand~

BIG Bet Poker Chip Art~

This was a really busy week for me, being that we were sick for so long & I had no desire to create anything for such a long time, nor  was I motivated to be creative.   That changed this week big time, one day I was sitting in my favorite chair & just started writing ideas down it seems that I indeed did have inspiration I was just not able to see it.  So now that I had my mojo back I worked like a fiend and actually started & completed 6 wall art projects!  Can you believe it?  I sure couldn't~
Today, I will share with you my fun poker chip wall art that I created for the playroom~

I purchased these poker chips from Michael's last year sometime with the intentions of creating something for the play room.  These were the only colors I was able to find so I painted some of the white chips yellow~
This was the first thing I came up with and I was just not feeling it so I took it apart.  It seemed to predictable and simple~
I sat on the floor & played with different color combinations and I came up with this~
I like it because you can created many different patterns with these 3 panels~
I used my trusty glue gun & glued the chips onto another favorite, foam core~
This one is a bit l-o-n-g~
 Looks like a bird~
 Colored Diamonds~
I have it/them hung in the angels bathroom right now, but I was looking around the playroom & it looks rather busy to me so I am gonna change it up and I am sure these will end up in the playroom sometime soon~

Makin' Bacon~

Okay,Okay, I know this post is a bit weird, but a friend asked me how I got our bacon so crisp and in straight strips.   I started to tell her & she stopped me  & said just put it on your blog so that everyone can see not just me.  I promised her so here I am~

I first must give credit where credit is due and this one goes to my husband!  We were making bacon up to twice a day as that was all one of my angels wanted to eat.  We started makin' it on a dinner plate but gosh the plates would get so hot and the drippings would no drain very well.  I went in search of something in which to use and came back with this, I found it at Bed bath & Beyond.  It is indeed a bacon maker, but I am sure they never thought it would be used like this.  Oh and yes that is clean, it is just a very well seasoned bacon maker~
You will need about 4 sheets of parchment paper the approximate size of the bacon maker~
Lay one sheet of parchment paper on the bacon maker~
And start layering your bacon.  Each package of bacon comes with about 14-15 slices~
Continue to layer until you have placed all the bacon in rows and layers~
I have 3 rows of bacon here lined up nice & neat~ Excuse the counter tops I hate them,, they will not stay clean stupid grout lines who ever thought to lay tile in a kitchen should have their heads checked!  RIGHT?
Sorry about that, I needed to get that off my chest!  Okay, now on to makin' bacon.  Cut the edges off to about the size of the maker allow for some shrinkage~
Place in microwave for approx. 11 minutes or until your bacon looks brown & crisp.  Remove from micro, but be careful it is hot  your will need some pot holders.  I wished I would have takin' a picture of the little rubber coasters I use because fabric pot holders get so greasy.  Drain the extra grease~
Now you are left with the best, crispiest bacon you have ever made. YUM~
Doesn't it make your mouth water?  It looks so good.  Okay, I need to close this post because I really do need to make bacon this morning~

Have a GREAT day~
